I like making my own steak sauce for a few reasons. I just don’t use it often enough to use a whole bottle before it goes bad, so I can make a smaller batch of this just for one or two meals. I also like that I can adjust the flavor profile when I make my own.
This steak sauce is a tad thinner than an A1 type sauce, which makes it a good one for drizzling over steak before serving. It can also be served on the side for dipping. I find that a thinner consistency adds just enough flavor to the steak without overpowering the meat itself. The meat should remain the star of the dish!
Steak Sauce Serving Suggestions
You probably found this post looking for a homemade steak sauce recipe with specific steak-cooking plans in mind. But just in case you need some steak recipe recommendations, here are a few!
Grilled strip steaks: Is there any other way to even prepare strip steak? Totally kidding, but I do think those are best grilled! Strip steaks are one of my favorites to eat with a steak sauce. Hey Grill, Hey has a post with How to Cook Perfect New York Strip Steaks. Her recipe includes an optional garlic herb compound butter, which is delicious.
Sirloin steaks: I make a great sirloin that's almost filet-like, but unfortunately I haven't gotten around to posting the recipe yet. While I catch up on that, Dad Cooks Dinner has a Instant Pot Sirloin Steak recipe great for weeknight dinners and Instant Pot lovers. I Heart Naptime has a great post on How to Cook Sirloin Steaks. Her recipe calls for avocado oil, which is also my go-to for high-heat cooking.

Steak Sauce Recipe Notes
Don’t skip the cooking part. This is what helps the flavors come together. I’ve sampled it right away after mixing and it’s definitely not the same. Right after mixing, it’s like every ingredient can be tasted individually and it’s not cohesive. After cooking, the flavors come together more cohesively.
Customizations
Add a little honey, brown sugar, or agave nectar if you want it to be slightly sweet. Want a spicy sauce? Add some cayenne or a few dashes of hot sauce. Tabasco is a good choice for this sauce, but sriracha would be my second choice. This sauce already has a decent amount of garlic flavor, but you can definitely add more if you want a more garlic-forward sauce.
