This recipe is great to make as an individual cocktail but it's also easy to make into a batch! I usually give out cocktails to my 21+ neighbors on Halloween. This made its way into the Halloween cocktail rotation one year when I shopped last minute and saw blood oranges in the produce section. The "recipe notes" section below includes a couple of variations - one for Halloween/fall and one for my big batch version. If you're looking for another citrus-forward cocktail, check out my Lemon Meringue Pie Martini.
Recipe Notes
I recommend using fresh squeezed blood oranges for this recipe. The orange crush (cocktail), a signature drink here in Maryland, has made me a bit of a purist when it comes to oranges in cocktails. If you can't find fresh blood oranges or don't want to go through the hassle of squeezing them, though, I'm sure Ina would say store-bought is fine. (P.S. If you're wondering about this orange crush cocktail, check out this recipe from fellow Maryland food blogger Jessica at Savory Experiments).
You can use whatever kind of rum you'd like, though in order of preference I'd recommend white, dark, spiced. However, for a fall or Halloween twist, use spiced rum! (For another great fall cocktail idea, check out this Red Mare Cocktail with cinnamon, ginger, and Bourbon.)
Batch Cocktail Notes
See the notes section at the bottom of the recipe card for the large batch recipe. I make a few adjustments to the proportions to make this easier (and a little more cost-effective) for the batch version.
The batch version calls for 12 blood oranges, or about 4 cups of blood orange juice. I cheat a little in the batch version and supplement the blood orange juice with regular orange juice (usually also fresh squeezed). Blood oranges are more expensive, so this helps keep the recipe a little more cost friendly when making a big batch. You can certainly still use all blood orange juice if you'd like!
If making ahead combine everything except for the 7Up/Sprite and add that right before serving. You can choose to serve in a pitcher with ice (will dilute the cocktail some) or with the ice on the side.

Blood Orange Pomegranate Rum Punch
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoon rum (1 shot = 3 tablespoons)
- 1 blood orange juiced (a little over ¼ cup if using premade juice)
- 2 tablespoon pomegranate juice
- 3 tablespoon lemon lime soda
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients and stir. Serve over ice. Garnish with an orange slice if desired.
Notes
- 12 blood oranges, juiced (about 4 cups juice, but ok if between 3.75 and 4.25)
- 2 cups orange juice (in the batch cocktail I supplement with regular orange juice because blood oranges are expensive, but you can use entirely blood orange juice)
- 4 cups rum
- 2½ cups pomegranate juice
- 4 cups lemon lime soda
